Flavour Sprays

Flavoursprays

Bizarre product of the week – flavour sprays or to use the American spelling FlavorSpray.

What I gather is that, as a way of loosing weight, you use these sprays to impart a flavour of a type of food. So you can buy a cheesecake spray or a banana split spray and, well, spray it.

By eliminating your toppings, gravies, dressings, and sauces the flavour spray provides the flavour that most diets are missing. No longer when you diet will you crave the sweet taste, or yearn for flavour when you count calories. Just spray our flavour spray and you will no longer need to satisfy your craving for flavour. Follow a low carb meal regimen, and allow flavour spray to add the toppings and sauce to your meal.

They have been created by an award winning American chef, David Burke. On of the suggested recipes states 6oz Grilled Steak with one spray of Teriyaki, 1 Cup of String Beans and one Spray of Pesto, 1 Small Salad and one spray of Parmesan Cheese.

They retail for £4.99 each with various special offers and pack prices. You can, if tempted, order on-line in the UK via the website. You can also, for £7.99, sign up for a years subscription to the chefs recipe newsletter.

Purple Love Week

Purple Love Week
Purple Love Week? What on earth…

Purple Love Week is Britain’s biggest free food tasting event. It takes place from 10th-17th February and is all about supporting your local independent retailers. Hundreds of delicatessens, farm shops and other small retailers are taking part and all are offering free tasting events in store during the week.

Shoppers will be able to pick up their very own Little Purple Love Book and, perhaps even fall in love for the first time with their local independent, who’ll be waiting for them with open arms, loads of tasty things to try and maybe even a hug or three!

“Purple Love Week brings together hundreds of great independents in one unique event and, although we obviously hope everyone will have great fun, the underlying message could not be more serious. It’s all about helping our small food shops thrive and survive because we’ll certainly miss them when they’re gone,” added Giles.

A dedicated website, www.purplelove.co.uk, flags up what’s happening.

Recipes for Chinese New Year

Chinese food
This year, Chinese New Year celebrations will start on Sunday February 18th. Why not celebrate in style with recipes provided by Tiger Beer and Sharwoods?

Over on the Tiger Beer website – located next to a competition to win dinner for two at a top Chinese restaurant and a year’s supply of Tiger Beer – are a series of recipes. To be honest they are not that inspiring or original but if you don’t know where to start with Barbecue Spare Ribs, Beef And Peppers In Black Bean Sauce or Duck With Plum Sauce this is the place to click to.

Homecooking: Soulfood Served By Jazzanova and Friends

jazzanova
The theme of this ‘various artists’ compilation is eating with friends. The album comes complete with a cookbook providing inspiration for the dinner party you are supposed to host while playing the music.

The album received a healthy 4 out of 5 in the Times recently who described Homecooking: Soulfood as

many tastes are catered for, as the style ranges from toothsome new soul to stiff instrumental jazz workouts and offbeat numbers such as The Fake Anti Waltz by the Slapped Eyballers. The high point comes with the arrival of the New Zealanders Fat Freddy’s Drop and their song Ray Ray, which demands, quite reasonably: ‘What’s the world with no soul’.

Homecooking: Soulfood Served By Jazzanova and Friends is available from Amazon.co.uk for £12.99

Colchester – Mince Pie Eating Capital of the UK

Sainsbury’s has released a set of sales figures – indeed, boring stuff, but before you click away…

…these figures make Colchester the mince pie eating capital of the UK! An accolade they have now won for the third year in a row. An astonishing 201,000 pies have already been eaten by Essex pie fanciers in the last month – as the region out-scoffs its nearest rival by almost 30,000 pies.

* Hedge End in Southampton came in second with shoppers having eaten 172,134 pies
* Emerson’s Green in Bristol wasn’t far behind with 168,192 pies
* Chippenham devoured 162,588 pies
* Christchurch, Dorset comes in fifth with 160,212
