BBC Countryfile Magazine

Countryfile MagazineThis October the BBC is launching a new magazine with a TV tie-in – BBC Countryfile magazine. It will be edited by Cavan Scott.

It will be a practical, people-centric lifestyle mag covering all aspects of country life and green, sustainable living and I am very, very excited.

“The magazine will cover all aspects of country life and green, sustainable living, including regular features on local produce.”

The BBC Countryfile magazine team wants to find out what you think about local food – they have a Toshiba LCD TV worth £649 as further temptation to complete the survey.

Butterflied, Grilled Chilli Squid

You Tube screen shotHere’s a great 2+ minute video of a recipe – butterflied, grilled chilli squid – which is fast and simple. Provided by Hugh FW.

According to good ol’ Hugh its “delicious made with any fresh squid – UK-caught examples should be starting to appear on fishmongers’ slabs around now”.

The video is available on Your Tube.

Hotel Chocolate Goodie Bag

Hotel Chocolate DippersA Goody Bag For Every Season – a nifty little pack containing 6 delicious creamy truffles (picture), 100g slab of milk chocolate with cookie pieces, 2 milk chocolate dippers to swirl into a hot drink and nibble, 180g of creamy caramel drops and a bag of real hot chocolate flakes ready to melt into hot milk.

The speed with which the creamy caramel drop disappeared in the office is testimony to their deliciousness. The “best chocolate drops in the world” was one quote.

This pack is, we think, the Autumn Selection – not available yet, the Summer Selection, with similar contents, is still available on the website for £13.50; great value we believe.

The Very Best FoodPorn Show

Does My Blog Look Good In This - Picassa albumThe food porn showcase – Does My Blog Look Good In This - has had the hosting baton passed on to SpittoonExtra for this month.

Each month food blog owners select one of their images as being the very best they can produce in the realm of food imaging (foodporn in short). A team of judges then rates each picture on the grounds of originality, edibility and aesthetics.

Fourteen entries so far; showing original pictures that appeared on blogs during July. Over 100 entries is the ‘norm’ for DMBLGIT.

A Picassa album has been created for your viewing pleasure. Our current favourites are the hollandaise sauce picture by The Passionate Cook and the Raspberry Dahilia mousse with Mint Choc Leaves by R Khooks.

Metfield Bakery

Metfield BakeryThey supply the food halls of Fortnums, Selfridges and Harvey Nichols and have impressed the food writers at the Telegraph but the Metfield Bakery in Norfolk is not totally ‘exclusive’ – they have a website!

Bread (just a small range listed, those that keep well), cakes (eg Lardy Cake, Seasonal Fruit Frangipan, Tunisian Lemon and Orange Cake each serve 12 for £15), pies (including jelly free small pork pies) and savoury tarts (Cromer Crab And Samphire for example) form the basis of the produce available.

Eighteen recipes are listed ranging from Summer Rabbit Stew, Hot Water Pastry, Country Pork Terrine and Norfolk Stew with Herby Dumplings.
