Country Living Christmas Fair

Country Living Christmas FairCountry Living Magazine are sponsoring two shows this coming winter – the Christmas Fair at the Business Design Centre, London runs over the 12th to the 16th November. A similar show, Christmas Fair Scotland, is in Glasgow over the 20th – 23rd November.

For each Fair the magazine assembles a special selection of independent British designers, makers and small producers who represent the spirit of the magazine – distinctive, original and authentic. The Fairs are a chance to shop for traditional furnishings and accessories for the home, contemporary jewellery and fashion, handmade crafts and fine food and drink.

The food hall is a ‘gastronomic heaven stuffed full of sumptuous Christmas treats’.

Come and be tempted by authentic regional delicacies such as superb sausages and hams, locally produced cheeses and pates and a mouthwatering selection of Christmas cakes, puddings and chocolates, many of them available to taste before you buy. And, to make sure your Christmas goes with a swing, don’t forget to stock up on wines, ports and other festive beverages.

Eden Project Beer Festival

Eden Project Beer FestivalBeer, song and sumptuous local food will make up the menu at the first ever Great Eden Ale Festival on September 20 and 21.

As part of Eden’s harvest celebrations, the project will showcase some of the best beers and ciders Cornwall has to offer and celebrate the plants that make some of the nation’s favourite drinks. As well as the finished products, visitors will be able to see hops growing in the shadow of the world’s biggest greenhouses and see demonstrations of home-brewing and apple-pressing.

Visitors can also meet specialists on microbreweries, home brewing and find out more about CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale. Cornish Orchards, who make apple juice and cider, will also have a stall.

A menu chosen to complement the drink selection will be on offer for the weekend, including Cornish cider and seafood paella, and steak and Eden Pure Ale pie. These complement the autumn specials available across all of Eden’s café bars.

Pints will be priced at £2.50, with a sample for 85p. Various beers will also be available to take away. Visitors who book in advance through Eden’s box office on 01726 811972 will be entitled to a free pint. On the Saturday, Eden will be open until 8pm and on Sunday 6pm. Normal Eden entry prices apply for the whole weekend.

ITV Productions is looking for contestants to take part in a brand new, day-time cookery series called Taste the Nation. If you have a passion for food and want to represent your county in a national cookery knock-out, then this is the show for you.

But it gets better, you will be mentored and masterclassed by one of the Nation’s finest celebrity chefs and your cookery skills will be pushed to their max. You will also be judged by some of the country’s fiercest critics so this show is not for the faint hearted!

You can be an amateur or professional – but have one thing in common your talents in the kitchen could impress a celebrity chef.

We will be filming the series from November 2008 to February 2009. “

Autumn edition of Great British Food

Great British Food Autumn 2008Having rather enjoyed the last few issue of Great British Food magazine news that the Autumn issue is now available was certainly pleasing.

Content is to cover seasonal food and drink available during September and October. Interesting articles on game, Kentish cob-nuts and Cornish Sardines provide both information and recipe ideas, while recipe features offer cooking inspiration for using up seasonal favourites such as blackberries, squash, scallops and wild mushrooms.
