Bicerin Chocolate Hazelnut Liqueur
As with many of these obscure continental liqueurs there is a tortuous and long-winded history behind Bicerin; in this case linking Napoleon, a bar founded in 1763 and Count Cavour, the architect of modern Italy.
Regardless of its provenance Bicerin is new to the UK, finding favour in those top bars that no one you know has ever been to - Locanda Locatelli and the Light Bar at the St Martin’s Lane Hotel for example.
Delicious magazine describes the drink as “thick-as-honey hazelnut chocolate liqueur”. Recommended as an alternative to dessert, as a cocktail ingredient or for culinary uses (Flute al Bicerin & Bicerin Torta Golosa, Orange Soufflés with Chocolate Liqueur & Bicerin Flaming Bananas or Bicerin Coffee Cake).
If Bicerin is tickling your taste buds you can purchase a bottle online for £15. Postage though is an additional £6.50. Independent delis are also listed as stockists as is DrinkOn.com (£16.99).
You can also sample Bicerin di Gianduiotto at the La Dolce Vita - Italian Festival.
