Christmas Hampers

Valvona & Crolla hamperEveryone and their mother seems to offer Christmas hampers; by everyone I mean delis and on-line specialists and ‘county’ companies that seem to operate during the last two months of the year alone. It would be fascinting to know exactly how many of these wicker wonders wing their way across the country. I have never brought any myself. They often seem to be full of less-than-useful items, with little thought to originality and expensive for what they contain. And isn’t it more fun to compile your own?

The first such seasonal offering just appeared in my in-box. Now Valvona and Crolla are afascinating highly regarded Edinburgh deli, Italian specialists, with a fine range of wines to boot. Their hampers and gift boxes range in price from £29 to £300. The one pictured, Napoli, is £60.

Each of our hampers contains a variety of Italian food and wine, and all are gift wrapped. The Roma (£95) comprises Italian cooking ingredients - pasta, rice, olive oil, balsamic, and sauces - with two wines and our famous panettone. Others contain fresh produce from our delicatessen, such as the Venezia (£135) with Scottish salmon, venison and cheese, Italian sausage and English Stilton.
