The latest foodie craze – Ecclefechan Tarts.
An alternative to the good old mince pie these, described as a cross between a pecan pie and an eccles cake, are a traditional Scottish treat. Over 50,000 of the addictive, slightly salty, little devils have been sold in the last month.
“Named after the town of Ecclefechan in Dumfires and Galloway. With the style and texture of a pecan pie but packed full with demerara sugar, butter, eggs, almonds, cherries and vine fruits these tarts are served barely warm with afternoon tea.”
Ecclefechan Tarts £1.79 for four from Sainsburys under their Taste the Difference brand.

2This post refers to last Christmas – 2008 – no idea if they are to be stocked again this year. I’ve just checked my local delivery store online and the tarts are not yet listed.
