Foodie Trends 2008
What trends are the marketing analysts touting for next year? Hedgehog Burgers? Marmite Yoghurt?
- new applications for probiotics - coming soon to a non-yoghurt product near you (chocolate, cheese)
- organic food for kids - despite growing controversy over marketing practises involved in selling foods aimed at children.
- bold flavors for ageing taste buds - as we age our taste-buds diminish so expect the trend for ’spicy’ on the label to continue. Sales of strong flavoured cheeses are growing rapidly and new products arriving (such as Portugal’s Adagio Moments Yogurt Drink launched earlier this year with a blend of chocolate chips, strawberries and chili peppers)
- superfoods - that Chinese Yum Berry is the hot tip
- green trends - environmentally friendly ways of producing packaged foods are expected to become more widespread - wind power to ferment the Limetti (lime) long drink in Finland, Stongate Farmers using wind and solar electricity to power its farms producing free range eggs.
