Huddersfield Ice Cream Company Prepares For Influx Of Christmas Eve Shoppers

A Huddersfield ice cream producer is preparing for an influx of customers this Christmas Eve eager to sample its limited edition festive flavours.

Yummy Yorkshire Ice Cream Company has created four exclusive flavours to celebrate the festive season, which have gone on sale in its Denby Dale based ice cream parlour.

The flavours include Rich Christmas Cake, Chocolate Orange, White Chocolate with Cranberries and Cranachan – a traditional Scottish dessert of honey, whisky, raspberry and oats – and are available to buy until Christmas Eve only, one of the busiest times of year for Yummy Yorkshire.

“We always have a queue out of the door on Christmas Eve,” says Louise Holmes of Yummy Yorkshire who is responsible for ice cream production. “You wouldn’t expect ice cream to be popular at this time of year but our festive flavours are always a huge hit, with the Rich Christmas Cake selling particularly well. Last year we sold 200 tubs of the Christmas flavours in the space of two days.”

The Rich Christmas Pudding flavour is made using a special blend of spices and is popular with traditionalists while the White Chocolate with Cranberries is a more indulgent flavour. New for this year are the Chocolate Orange and Cranchan flavours.

“I was inspired to create these flavours after a discussion with my Scottish Sister in law in October about recipes and traditional desserts,” explains Louise. “Cranachan was mentioned and I thought it was the ideal candidate for a new ice cream flavour. The blend of honey, whiskey and raspberry is very warming and the oats give the texture an extra dimension.”

Yummy Yorkshire Ice Cream is known for its innovative flavours, recently creating a selection of Bonfire Night inspired recipes such as Cinder Toffee and Parkin. Since the business was launched in April 2007, over 50 different recipes of traditional, seasonal and contemporary ice cream have been developed using the best, locally sourced ingredients and milk and cream from the farm’s own herd of Holstein cows.

Several of the flavours have scooped prestigious awards including ‘Lou’s Liquorice ice cream’ flavour which was awarded not only best Dairy Product and Supreme Product of the Year at the 2009 deliciouslyorkshire Awards, but also the top award at the 2009 Great Taste Awards, receiving three gold stars.

The Yummy Yorkshire ice cream parlour is located on the A629 between High Flatts and Ingbirchworth. For further information and directions visit www.yorkshiremilk.co.uk.

I don’t know which bit of Yorkshire you are in, but where I am the only influx we’ve had is the snow drift trying to get in through the front door. I just built a snowman and enjoyed some mulled wine. Life’s not so bad! Have a merry Christmas and a very happy New Year. Best regards.
