In Search Of… Pink Peppercorns
Cataloguing where to find the elusive and the rare was one of the reasons for setting up The Foodie List; building up a record of those quirky little internet stores, finding the best delis and hunting down the bargains.
Browsing my list of UK food bloggers I came across a post on foie Gras (Gastronomy Domaine) where Liz suggests trying foie gras with pink peppercorns as per her Bordeaux-living brothers instructions. They are a berry not a pepper really and not something I have come across before.
This pack from Buy Organics is pre-mixed with white and black pepper corns, not really what we need. (£1.99 for a standard jar) . The combination of Pink Pepper and Chocolate sounds interesting; but I am getting sidetracked! (£1.99 Chocolate Trading Company)
It might not have the most cutting edge design for a website (which might deter a few potential customers) but the French Food and Drink site offers a 100g jar of Pink Peppercorns for £2.30 plus postage. They are preserved in vinegar, so assume the flavour will be radically different from the ‘fresh’ sort advocated on the original post.
Then I recalled Steenbergs, who supply a range or organic herbs and spices. They list pink peppercorns, organic, from Brazil in three different sized jars. The standard size is £2.25 for 35g.
