Did someone mention Valentines to those manufacturers of the finest spread in existence? Just released is Marmite with a hint of champagne. Not a huge amount of Champagne admittedly but a ‘dash’ at 0.3%.
As with the last limited edition (Guinness Marmite) there are just 600,000 limited edition jars of the ‘Lovers’ Marmite’ being produced ahead of Valentine’s Day. Cost will be £2.99 unless you shop in Selfridges where it will be £3.99 (but you can buy it now rather than wait until the 21st January for it to be in wider circulation).
Selfridges also commissioned jewellery designer Theo Fennel to create just 50 pots of Lovers’ Marmite with a sterling silver engraved lid priced at £145.

5I just picked up a few jars in my local Co-Op.
Not many on the shelf and advertised on the shelf label as a “one time only” promotion.
It was not with the jams and spreads, rather with valentines day chocolates on the end of an aisle.

6Can anyone tell me what the number on the base means. At first I thought every jar had an individual number, ie: if you had jar number 17 that would have been the 17th jar made and there will be other jar wuth that number. But I have two number 17 jars so that is not the case. Does anyone have the answer?

12The best course of action is to ask at your local supermarket. From what I know with enough interest they should be able to order stocks in very quickly (if available from the warehouse).
If not yet available (unlikely seeing as it is only 14 days until Valentines) they should be able to give an ETA.

15I wonder if the use of “Champagne” has been approved by The protective Champagne authorities?
I smell trouble ahead.

16i have found loads of Champagne Marmite in Sainsburys in chiswick and Staines. Best idea is to get to the stores early in the morning because all the shelves have just been filled and both places had loads.
Good luck!!

20I’ve just been given a ‘Champagne-Marmite’ by my long time friend and he says he found some jars in Sainsburys Central Stockport. He knows after all this time I love the stuff.
I think I’ll get a second jar before I get round to tasting this food of the Gods!

21[...] If you’re stuck for ideas for sexy presents there’s still time to sort something out. Cory Silverberg’s got a whole host of things to try and buy. And if you’re after something just that little bit unusual perhaps you could get your partner some Champagne flavoured Marmite? [...]

25It’s back for 2009, you can find it at Silver Lid for Champagne Marmite and they’ll even engrave the lid with a special Valentine’s message.
