Jubilee Bacon and Egg Icecream

yummy yorkshire ice cream companyHuddersfield ice cream producer Yummy Yorkshire has created 13 innovative, British-themed ice cream flavours in celebration of the Diamond Jubilee.

The flavours will be available to buy for one week only and include the more unusual ‘Bacon & Egg’ ice cream and ‘Pear & Stilton’ as well as more traditional flavours including ‘Peaches & Cream’ and ‘Afternoon tea’ made from scones, jam and cream.

The award-winning producer will launch its ‘Traditional British Week’ on Monday 4 June and will have a selection of the special Jubilee flavours on offer every day at its Denby Dale based ice cream parlour until 10 June.

The full portfolio of flavours for the week includes: Old Yorkshire Trifle, Eton Mess, Honey & Fig, Clotted Cream Fudge, After Eight, Peaches & Cream, Pear & Stilton, Afternoon Tea, Pontefract Cake, Bacon & Egg, Strawberries & Cream, Summer Fruit Panna cotta and Rhubarb & Custard.

Louise Holmes, co-founder of Yummy Yorkshire is responsible for the creation of new ice cream flavours. Speaking about Traditional British Week she said: “We wanted to do something special to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and thought that a whole week of celebrating truly British ice cream flavours would be ideal.

“Some of the flavours already exist in our portfolio but others such as Bacon & Egg and Pear & Stilton have been created especially for the week. The Bacon & Egg flavour is tastier than it sounds; it has crispy bacon pieces rippled throughout which contrast perfectly with the custardy creaminess of the ice cream. The Stilton & Pear meanwhile is a delicious combination of pear ice cream and chunks of creamy stilton cheese”

The flavours will be available to buy on the cone from the Yummy Yorkshire Ice Cream parlour priced at £1.70 per scoop. The parlour is located off the A629 between Huddersfield and Penistone.

Jubilee Angostura

For the first time in nearly 200 years Angostura has changed the packaging of its iconic Angostura aromatic bitters. As a long standing Royal Warrant holder Angostura decided to launch the limited edition pack - Jubilee Angostura - to celebrate The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on 5th June this year.

Angostura wanted to not only celebrate the Diamond Jubilee with a new label like other Royal Warrant holders, but also to acknowledge the honour of being a Royal Warrant holder by donating to the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST). For every bottle sold, Angostura will donate £1 to this charity that helps further the careers of craftsmen and women in Great Britain.

Alex Thomas, Senior Manager of Sales and Marketing, commented:

“The Jubilee Angostura will be the first change that we have ever made to the product in nearly 200 years with both the recipe and the label remaining the same since 1824.”

He continued Angostura was first awarded a Royal Warrant in 1912 by George V, it was transferred in 1947 to George VI and finally to The Queen in 1955. We wanted to not only celebrate the Diamond Jubilee with a limited edition pack, but also to acknowledge such a prestigious honour by donating to the QEST Appeal. True craftsmanship is at the heart of Angostura and we believe in helping encourage that in others too; that’s what made us the success story we are today.”

Mystery surrounds the world famous Angostura aromatic bitters. From the recipe for the bitters itself to why the label ended up being too large for the bottle. Probably the most well known label story is that it was simply a result of the laid back Caribbean way of life. When someone ordered the wrong size label and the mistake was spotted, everyone thought someone else would correct it. When no one did, they decided to stick with the oversized label rather than change it and so it became the trade mark of the brand.

Fans of the iconic bitters needn’t worry, exclusive to Waitrose from May, there are only 6,600 bottles of the Jubilee Angostura available in the UK. When it’s gone it’s gone.

Vintage Summer Jubilee Cake

Forget the Victoria Sponge, Vintage Inns has produced a ‘royal rival’ for the traditional treat – as welcomed by ‘King of Cakes’ Paul Hollywood.

Chefs for the group of country pubs and restaurants have created the Vintage Summer Jubilee Cake, a triple-decker sponge cake with raspberries and blackcurrants, summer fruit syrup, cream and blueberry fruit, to celebrate Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee.

The £3.95 red, white and blue puddings will feature exclusively on the Vintage Inns menu until the end of August and for every slice Vintage Inns will donate 15p to Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Paul was on hand to try the mouth-watering dessert at a jubilee launch party held at The Lion in Farningham, complete with bunting and Union Jack flags.

A judge on smash hit TV show The Great British Bake-off, Paul joined in with the celebrations which included a super-sized version of the cake.

The TV baker said:

“What a fitting way to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. The Victoria Sponge was created in honour of Queen Victoria’s reign so it’s only right we commemorate Elizabeth II with something special and traditionally British and I think she would enjoy tucking into this royal treat!
“As a nation of food lovers, we always rise to the challenge of producing something delicious for a momentous occasion.”

Vintage Inn pubs and restaurants are known for their welcoming atmosphere, quality food, attractive beer gardens and real ales and are often set in stunning locations, in picturesque villages or rolling countryside.

The Mitchells & Butlers brand has almost 200 pubs, from Plymouth in the South West to Inverness in Scotland where the Vintage Summer Jubilee Cake can be purchased.

Jubilee Musical Biscuit Tin

Jubilee Muscial Biscuit TinA rather tastefully designed biscuit tin; stylish enough to lift it from the ‘naff’ and ‘tacky’ even with the addition of a wind up musical box that plays ‘God Save The Queen’.

Inside this glorious tin is a generous helping of an entirely new Fortnum’s biscuit, invented especially to celebrate our monarch’s Diamond Jubilee. Made with Cornish clotted cream, each digestive is half-dipped in dark chocolate and embossed with the Fortnum’s logo. The elegant tin is decorated with a parade of royal beasts, all dancing in jubilation – and if you wind the key in its base, it will play ‘God Save the Queen’. A deliciously royal experience.

The Jubilee Muscial Biscuit Tin is available from Fortnum & Mason for £12.95
