Hollywood superstar Gwyneth Paltrow comes to UKTV Food this month with a brand-new and exclusive series that sees her indulge her passion for Spanish food and embark on a culinary roadtrip around the Latin country.
Joining Gwyneth on her trip is Iron Chef Mario Batali, New York Times food writer Mark Bittman and Spanish actress Claudia Bassols.
The four foodies start their journey in Castilla La Mancha where the boys explore the fish market while the girls celebrate Claudia’s birthday in style – lounging luxuriously eating churros and drinking hot chocolate. The series continues when Gwyneth and Mario meet up with legendary architect Frank Gehry, and Mark and Claudia head into the woods where they discover the ultimate grilling restaurant.
Elsewhere there’s a trip to Galicia to dig for shellfish and eat wood-fired empanadas, and a visit to Basque country where there’s a behind-the-scenes vineyard tour at a luxury hotel. Feeling peckish, Gwyneth and Mark indulge in a spot of vine-side grilling. Meanwhile, Claudia learns from master chef Juan Mari Arzak.

1Happy New Year, Andrew. My word, when I met UKTV Food back in ’04 to pitch ‘Market Forces’ (a series about Borough Market, a version of which they commissioned with another company) I was told that their budgets were only £15k per 30 minute programme. How they can afford a Hollywood A-lister, goodness only knows…

2My understanding is that it is an American series; perhaps they brought it ‘on the cheap’? Your knowledge of the TV industry is greater than mine mind…

3Re, ‘A Pinch of Paltrow’, they will no doubt be in bed with a major sponsor… They’ve run entirely sponsored series. Did you ever see the one funded by Laithwaites?
PS. How’s the spoon?

4Just wanted to say how much we have enjoyed the programme but do you really have to have such loud and unnecessary background music. It takes a lot of the enjoyment away, and you must realise that there are hundreds of thousands of people with hearing defects and loud background music is one of the main problems.
P>S> PLEASE lower the volume of the backgropund music!

5We really enjoyed the programme too, it rather grew on us, the background music was very intrusive to start off.
Annoyingly I missed the Bilbao episode which I really wanted to see having visited in 2006, is there any chance of a re-run? Also my husband has said he would like it on DVD, any chance of that?
We rather think Mercedes Benz had something to do with the programme somehow…

6Great and original programme. Book is good too, well worth having for the recipes. But why no DVD available for Europe?

7Really enjoyed the series, but missed a couple of episodes. Would like to buy the dvd for myself and my Dad as he would appreciate this programme. I live in Spain and it seems i cannot buy the dvd for Europe. Our dvd player would not recognise the American system. Help ???
