Weasel Coffee Beer

The UK’s only Vietnamese Coffee business, located at Broadway Market in Hackney is Ca Phe Vietnam ..www.caphevn.co.uk..

They have collaborated with maverick Danish brewer Mikkeller to create the world’s first and only Weasel coffee beer : BEER GEEK BRUNCH WEASEL, an imperial oatmeal stout flavoured with the hyper expensive Civet defecated coffee. The beer, label pictured, comes in at a hefty 10.5% alcohol.

Mikkeller is currently brewing a new batch of ‘Brunch Weasel’ and is interested in UK distribution.

Ca Phe Vietnam have the Ca Phe Chon/ Weasel coffee available from its online store and is available to drink at branches of PHO in London

This imperial Oatmeal stout is brewed with one of the world’s most expensive coffees, made form the droppings of weasel-like civet cats. The fussy Southeast Asian nimals only eat the best and ripest coffee berries. Enzymes in their digestive systems help to break down the bean. Workers collect the bean-containing droppings for Civet Weasel Coffee. The popular Civit Coffee has a strong taste and an even stronger aroma.”

Zeitgeist Beer

Coming soon… Brewdog Zeitgeist

Interesting, learned about this one via a BBC radio blogger. James Cridland writes that the “beer’s slightly scary label” was created by a Scottish art student, Heather Brennan who won a competition organised by the brewery.

“Heather was dressed in purple, echoing the bottle’s colour: but it seems even this has a story - the original plan was for the label to be in green, not dark purple, but the printer had run out of the right colour ink.”

Apparently, if you buy a case for delivery on the website, you get a code to be able to post a blog entry on the website. This is a clever wheeze - the website encouraging a community feel from Zeitgeist beer drinkers. It’s like social media, but around a new beer.

“Zeitgeist is a black lager (it’s how lager used to be), with a nice light chocolatey/coffee taste. At 4.9% it’s not too scary, being the same kind of strength as a standard lager. Not just does it taste better than a Kronenburg, it’s less fizzy too.”

The beer, like the website, is coming soon… so no details of other stockists or price.

Only Fine Beer

An article on Radio 4 recently highlighted some of the benefits of buying food past the sell by date. But have you ever considered buying beer past the date on the bottle?

Onlyfinebeer has listed out of date (OOD) beer for quite a while now. The selections can be found by typing “ood” into the search bar.

You’ll find selections from the UK, America, Belgium and Germany at considerably reduced prices. English from 31p, German from 53p and Belgian from £1; Belgian OOD is in very short supply.

“You don’t have to buy OOD beers because cash is short. Many of our customers realise that the brands we stock are of the highest quality and are stored correctly in a temperature controlled environment. The cold, lack of light and movement adds to the longevity.

There are many styles available from lagers to stouts, though the selections are a random choice of brands from that country. Customers can order then email their preferred selection to be of one style; such as pilsner or stouts.

There are no caveats. It you find something wrong, with anything, regardless of the brand being in or out of date you are very welcome to return it, where I will refund you for the beer. So buy with confidence and you could be very surprised!”
