Apple Day logoA whole host of events are planned for October the 21st for National Apple Day.

In my area (Oxfordshire) there are pruning workshops and gardener’s advice on old varieties. Cooking demonstrations and apple tastings at the National Trusts Grey’s Court Property, while Waterperry has apple and apple juice tastings of the 50 varieties grown in the gardens orchards. You can nave your mystery apple crops identified by experts, and get advice and information about choosing the best apple tree for your garden, plus planting tips, apple games like bobbing, and an apple-themed menu in the teashop throughout the day. All that plus tours of our orchards, apple sheds and juicing shed to see how Waterperry apple juice is produced, plus a country crafts and food fair.

Sulgrave Manor near Banbury has Apple Identifiers on site who will be bringing over 400 varieties of English apples for the public to view. Apple trees, apples and cider for sale, apple pressing in the orchard and fresh juice for sale. Rural craft workers (thatcher, hurdle maker, cane & rush seat crafter) and Gerry the Rope Burrows with his rope walk. There will be also be craft and gift stalls in the Manor house and a large marquee - an ideal opportunity to start your christmas shopping. This year, Apple Day also incorporates the Four Shires Food Fair. Local suppliers and producers exhibiting and selling with tasters and cookery demonstrations.
