Chocolate For Christmas: Hotel Chocolat Classic Christmas Selection

Just Lift the Lid and let Christmas Out!

Mousse au Chocolat – dark chocolate with a smooth creamy ganache – has got to be my favourite although the Cranberry and Apple has a seasonal fruitiness that was rather delicious. Then again the Red Berry Mousse was light and fruity too, so that has to be the favourite. Although I’ve just relished the Mulled Wine chocolate with its splash of port adding to the cinnamon, clove and orange… oh, but then the Rum Ingot using golden rum from Saint Lucia was superbly intense. But last week the Gingerbread Truffle was stonkingly good… but was the Champagne Star, all white chocolate and cream ganache with a dash of marc de champagne better? Just possibly. Not forgetting the Milk Liquid Caramels with their oozingly soft caramel that didn’t last very long at all, neither did those superb Florentine Dreams… and that still leaves several in the box not even sampled yet… which IS the favourite?

The Hotel Chocolat Sleekster Classic Christmas Selection is available for £28 and contains 40 chocolates.

Taste of Christmas 2010

Taste Festivals are delighted to announce that Taste of Christmas, the most fabulously festive culinary event of the Christmas season, is returning to ExCel London from December 3rd to 5th, 2010.

Taste of Christmas, the Christmastime counterpart to summer’s Taste of London, has everything the discerning foodie could desire: a boutique food market, the hottest new products, the biggest name chefs and over a dozen of London’s starriest restaurants. There’s no better place to shop, eat, drink and indulge – which is what Christmas is all about!

Last year’s event was a runaway success with over 28,000 visitors and more than 200 top food and drink producers attending. This year’s stylish show is set to be even bigger and better. Everyone who is anyone in the world of great British food will be in attendance. From cheesemakers to food critics, sommeliers to cookery writers, bakers to winemakers, they’ll all be at ExCel this December to share their favourite food and wine with attendees. Anyone looking for inspiration for a truly magical Christmas will certainly find it thanks to Taste of Christmas’ brilliant team of top chefs, food personalities and restaurateurs who promise to divulge all their best-kept Christmas secrets to make your Christmas sparkle.

A major draw of Taste of Christmas 2010, in common with previous years, will be the chance to sample Christmas-time signature dishes from the cream of the capital’s restaurants. They’ll all be available in perfectly proportioned ‘tasting’ portions so visitors can fit in as many exciting gustatory experiences as possible. True inspiration for a Christmas dinner with a difference!

Fans of celebrity chefs won’t be disappointed as there will be unparalleled access to some well known faces and opportunities to ‘meet the chefs’ and go behind-the-scenes as the ever-popular Taste Cookery School and Taste Theatre return once more. Seasonal recipes, top tips, trends and restaurant gossip are just part of the festive fun. Taste of Christmas isn’t just for grown-up gourmets. Children can enjoy the fun of a great family day out at Taste with activities, demonstrations and indulgences on offer that are guaranteed to put a smile on the face of young budding foodies.

Taste of Christmas is set to be a superb ‘one stop shop’ for attendees’ Christmas shopping as food producers, farmers and artisans from up and down the country bring their wares to the city. Visitors can expect to find a wealth of superb food products, many of them Taste of Christmas exclusives.

Central to the show are the finer things in life – those things that make the true foodie’s heart beat faster – namely cheese, wine, beer, coffee and, of course, chocolate! All favourite Christmas indulgences. New products, tutored tastings and samples galore will be on show with entire areas of the show dedicated to single foodstuffs such as Taste Cheese, Taste Chocolate and Taste Coffee. Gourmets with a single-minded wine obsession can even home straight in on their favourite indulgence at Taste Wine, a show-within-a-show, with a separate entrance and ticket with access to wine tastings, theatres and a boutique wine market.

All the season’s ‘must haves’ will be there too such as that all-important free-range turkey, boozy Christmas pud, truckle of Stilton and bottle of sherry for Santa. In short, everything that’s needed to make this Christmas a cracker.

Tickets for Taste of Christmas will be available at a variety of price points to suit all the family. Also available this year will be the very popular VIP tickets that allow fast-track entry and include extra-special tastings, priority booking and a festive glass of Champagne. For those looking for one last day of stress-free indulgence before the pre-Christmas planning starts in earnest – or for an early Christmas present for a food-loving friend – a VIP ticket is hard to beat.

Huddersfield Ice Cream Company Prepares For Influx Of Christmas Eve Shoppers

A Huddersfield ice cream producer is preparing for an influx of customers this Christmas Eve eager to sample its limited edition festive flavours.

Yummy Yorkshire Ice Cream Company has created four exclusive flavours to celebrate the festive season, which have gone on sale in its Denby Dale based ice cream parlour.

The flavours include Rich Christmas Cake, Chocolate Orange, White Chocolate with Cranberries and Cranachan – a traditional Scottish dessert of honey, whisky, raspberry and oats – and are available to buy until Christmas Eve only, one of the busiest times of year for Yummy Yorkshire.

“We always have a queue out of the door on Christmas Eve,” says Louise Holmes of Yummy Yorkshire who is responsible for ice cream production. “You wouldn’t expect ice cream to be popular at this time of year but our festive flavours are always a huge hit, with the Rich Christmas Cake selling particularly well. Last year we sold 200 tubs of the Christmas flavours in the space of two days.”

The Rich Christmas Pudding flavour is made using a special blend of spices and is popular with traditionalists while the White Chocolate with Cranberries is a more indulgent flavour. New for this year are the Chocolate Orange and Cranchan flavours.

“I was inspired to create these flavours after a discussion with my Scottish Sister in law in October about recipes and traditional desserts,” explains Louise. “Cranachan was mentioned and I thought it was the ideal candidate for a new ice cream flavour. The blend of honey, whiskey and raspberry is very warming and the oats give the texture an extra dimension.”

Yummy Yorkshire Ice Cream is known for its innovative flavours, recently creating a selection of Bonfire Night inspired recipes such as Cinder Toffee and Parkin. Since the business was launched in April 2007, over 50 different recipes of traditional, seasonal and contemporary ice cream have been developed using the best, locally sourced ingredients and milk and cream from the farm’s own herd of Holstein cows.

Several of the flavours have scooped prestigious awards including ‘Lou’s Liquorice ice cream’ flavour which was awarded not only best Dairy Product and Supreme Product of the Year at the 2009 deliciouslyorkshire Awards, but also the top award at the 2009 Great Taste Awards, receiving three gold stars.

The Yummy Yorkshire ice cream parlour is located on the A629 between High Flatts and Ingbirchworth. For further information and directions visit www.yorkshiremilk.co.uk.
