A Spectacular 300 Dish Dessert Banquet In Kenilworth Castle

To celebrate the first anniversary of the recreation of The Elizabethan Garden at Kenilworth Castle, English Heritage is recreating another stunning Elizabethan spectacle - the ‘ambrosial’ 300 dish dessert banquet reportedly served to Queen Elizabeth I during her stay there in 1575.

Created by the internationally renowned duo Bompas and Parr, famed for their spectacular food installations, the banquet will be served in the Elizabethan Garden for an exclusive one off public tasting on Tuesday 29th June 2010 from 12 noon, on a first come, first served basis.

The array of delicate and delicious desserts will be inspired by the succulent fruits and flowers found in the authentically recreated Elizabethan Garden and ingredients will range from wild strawberries and juicy cherries to pears and subtle floral infusions. The banquet will feature architecturally designed intricate sugar sculptures alongside other beautifully presented delicacies such as Milk and Rose Jam, hand panned Dragees and Candied Fruit - all spectacularly laid out to provide an eyewateringly beautiful, colourful and sensational feast, worthy of the Garden it will be served in.

Visitors to Kenilworth are invited to sample this unique culinary celebration in a one day tasting from 12 noon until 8pm on 29th June. Access is on a first come, first served basis and is free with entry to Kenilworth Castle. For those not fortunate enough to be part of this one day tasting event, there will still be a chance afterwards to see the fabulous sugar sculptures on display and purchase special banquet inspired dishes in the tea room.
